Critters
One of the primary reasons that people get into SCUBA diving is to see the abundance of marine life in person that they would otherwise only get to see on the Discovery Channel. I am still amazed to this day by the marine life that I see on dives and it inspires me to continue diving. One day, after getting up way to early in the morning and a horrifically long boat ride, two of my buddies and I were greeted my two enormous manta ray after jumping into the water. All three of us were on scooters and we spent the dive flying in formation, doing barrel rolls and gliding through the current with these magnificent animals. It was a truly magical experience. Once back on the boat, I told my friends, "You know, this is the reason why we do this." Dives like that are the reason that we put up with long boat rides through pounding seas, why we put up with sleeping on cramped bunks, why we haul around hundreds of pounds of gear, why we put up with getting up before the sun and why we stand getting wet all the time. Seeing magnificent creatures is what makes it all worth it and nothing compares to being there in person.
