Oregon
The Oregon was a luxury liner sunk in March 14, 1886 after striking an unknown schooner at the end of a voyage from Liverpool, England bound for NY. She was 518 feet long with a beam of 54 feet. Powered by a coal fired steam engine and four sails, she could make 19 knots ferrying passengers across the Atlantic. She sits upright but heavily broken down in 130 feet of water 21 miles off the coast of Fire Island, NY. I dove this wreck back in the summer of 2001 on our return trip from diving the Andrea Doria.
