VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES


There are many opportunities to become involved with the San Angelo AIDS Foundation (SAAF) in a volunteer capacity. Just as the AIDS epidemic has grown, so have our volunteer needs. As an active volunteer, it is up to you to decide where you can best utilize your talents. Please look over the following list of volunteer services carefully to determine your preferences in serving the needs of SAAF.

CLIENT SUPPORT SERVICES

BUDDY PROJECT After attending the mandatory training workshops, client/volunteer matches will be made. Volunteers will initiate and maintain personal and telephone contact with the client on a bimonthly basis.
GOLDEN TOUCH PROGRAM Volunteer hair stylists, masseuse, reflexologists and other personal care experts are needed to care for clients on a regular basis.
TRANSPORTATION Volunteers with day or nighttime availability for clients who need transportation to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, etc.
CLOTHES CLOSET EXCHANGE Donors and volunteers to sort clot7hes at least twice a year and as needed to gather appropriate sizes for delivery to a client.
GUARDIAN ANGELS Volunteers (Guardian Angles) are matched with clients anonymously. Guardian Angles send cards, letters and gifts to their client on birthdays and other holidays.
HOLIDAY HELPERS We need "crafty" people to help with our holiday outreach. Help make and decorate Christmas stockings, Valentine cards, Easter Baskets, etc.
FOOD BANK WORKERS Volunteers are needed to do food band shopping for clients and also deliver groceries to clients when needed.
CARE TEAMS In-house care for clients ant times when they may be unable to do things such as laundry, cleaning, cooking, or other similar tasks for themselves.
HOSPITAL VISITATION From time to time e have clients who wish to have SAAF volunteers visit with them during their hospital stay.
   

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT

KIDS ON THE BLOCK Volunteers with daytime availability are needed to make puppet presentations to area youth. Must be able to memorize script.
WOMEN-AT-RISK Volunteers with daytime availability are needed one morning per week to go door to door distributing literature to at risk women.
TEEN BOARD SPONSORS Volunteers are needed to assist Brent with Teen Board events. Transportation and organizational help is needed.
RURAL OUTREACH Volunteers are needed to serve as advocates for SAAF in their counties. These volunteers would look for possible presentation opportunities, work health fairs, and distribute literature.
LOCAL OUTREACH Volunteers are needed to distribute literature to appropriate places such as Laundromats, clinics, hair salons, etc.
   

OFFICE SUPPORT

RECEPTIONIST Volunteers are needed to staff the reception area to answer telephones and handle walk-ins. Office hours are Monday through Friday.- 9am - 5pm.
DATA ENTRY Volunteers are needed to help with the computer needs of SAAF. For example, adding/deleting information in order to keep the mailing list updated.
FUNDRAISING & SPECIAL EVENTS We hold many fund-raisers and special events each year. Volunteers are needed to help out in all aspects of these events, from pre- planning to working the event.
