About Us
A recent study by the National Endowment for the Arts shows a
distressing decline in the rate of literary reading among all age
groups, education levels, race/ethnicities and both men and women. The
study says, "At the current rate of loss, literary reading as a leisure
activity will virtually disappear in half a century." And there's more
to it than that:
1) 43% of literary readers perform volunteer and charity work compared
to only 17% of non-literary readers.
2) 49% of literary readers attend a performing arts event compared to
17% of non-literary readers (includes theater, music, and dance)
3) 44% of literary readers visit an art museums compared to 12% of
non-literary readers
Read the depressing report at http://www.nea.gov/pub/ReadingAtRisk.pdf.
It seems as though these statistics should be of concern to Mensans.
Finding that
the Dallas Area has a rich cultural environment, we set about finding
ways to take advantage of it. We
invite North Texas Mensa to join us in enjoying plays, concerts,
receptions, art talks etc.
