Where is Peace to be Found?

Where is peace to be found?

Bullets, bombs, and land mines do not know his name.
They only know pieces of bodies, pieces of children,
pieces of families that will never be the same.

Where is peace to be found?

Peace does not mean Please Execute All Children Everywhere.
Being weak or ill or different or poor is no reason
for a death warrant to be served at your door.

Where is peace to be found?

Is the peace of death all you can come up with?
Even the One who said, "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth"
realized His mistake and sent His son to say,
"Treat your neighbor as you would like to be treated,"
and "Turn the other cheek unconditionally when needed."

Where is peace to be found?

Not in eyes blind to genocides,
Not in ears deaf to machetes hacking,
Not in torrents of broken words which have buried
	and reburied peace for ages.

Where is peace to be found?

Each of us belongs to the family of man.
Wiser members must help us understand
vengeance can only end in eradicating our entire family.

Where is peace to be found?

	Do you know?
	Or is it too late?
	Is slow sure death
	our unalterable fate?

The opposite of peace is death.
Is peace for us past understanding?
Can we stop our ticking rebellion against life?
Or have our hearts grown cold and dead?
Do we lack the courage to save our family
	from being extinguished?

Where is peace to be found?

	We have talked long enough.

Instead we must act and let our acts of peace
	replace our hollow speech.

Or have we been pounded and numbed
by violent words and scenes until they have filled our very souls,
and nothing is left of our humanity to cry out...
Have we become butchers through default?
