An Open Letter

Dear Senator McCain,

I hope this finds you well, and also hope you'll win the election against Senator Obama. You have, frankly, some pretty silly ideas about "ecology," but there's really only one issue that stands between you and your becoming a good president of the United Sates of America. You can take that both ways, it's both an obstacle to your being elected and to your acceptable performance in office.

That issue is, of course, treatment of illegal aliens in America. To bring it down to the most basic level, Americans hate them not because they reject our culture and laws while insisting upon living here, or even because they're criminals. Americans hate them because they are, by definition, liars and cheaters. We don't like that, and no amount of maudlin sympathy for their plight in life (being born in Mexico or to other illegals in this country) can change that.

There cannot be, there cannot be allowed to be, any form of path to citizenship of any kind whatsoever for those who lied and cheated to get here. It's said cheaters never win, and that is true in the most fundamental sense: if the scoreboard says you won but you cheated to do it, your victory is worth less than nothing because you're not and can never be a winner - only a cheater. We could legalize heroin, crack and meth tomorrow and pardon all the dealers and users... but they wouldn't be ex-criminals. They'd only be criminals who aren't presently following their trade.

You know this: you were a Navy officer with the grounding in ethics and morality that implies. You must not even consider "legalizing" illegal aliens in this country, not simply because it will lead to a tidal wave of illegals from all over the world or because all legitimate Americans will turn their backs on you in disgust. You must not advocate or permit it because it is wrong, and you know it's wrong no matter how expedient it may seem.

Sincerely,

Paul A. Weiser

P.S. I signed Tom Tancredo's open letter to you, same subject, too!
