What challenges will changing demographics in America place upon policy professionals and communities of color? Can multiracial or ethnic coalitions really be effective in addressing policy problems? How can I balance my personal and professional commitments to my community? While there may not be any easy answers to these questions, issues such as these frequently confront young policy professionals around the U.S. To help shed some light on how policy professional can deal with these and other related challenges, the COMPAS Project organized a special Town Hall Forum at its October 2000 conference.

Audience members share their professional experiences while exploring
the meaning of multicultural leadership in a diverse society during
the Town Hall Forum at the COMPAS policy Conference.

Town Hall Moderator Alfred Ramirez takes notes while special guest Dale Anglin
responds to an audience question at the COMPAS Policy Conference.

Moderated by seasoned policy veteran Alfred Ramirez --president of the National Community for Latino Leadership -- the Town Hall Forum explored some of the challenges facing current and future policy and international affairs professionals of color. With insights added by special guest Dale Robinson Anglin -- director of external relations for the New Community

Corporation in Newark NJ -- participants shared professional experiences and potential strategies for the future.

To continue this dialogue the COMPAS Project is working to place an electronic audio copy of the Town Hall Forum on the Internet. In addition, the COMPAS Project is investigating the use of other new information technologies to provide the type of regular exchange of information necessary for a healthy and viable national network of policy professionals of color.
