A year ago, in response to the Academy for Education Development's
(AED)
Request for Proposal, a coalition of East Coast PPIA alumni and
other domestic
and international public policy professionals convened to develop
a proposal
which would seek to enhance organizational networking and leadership
development for
public policy professionals of color. The project team, which
soon named the initiative
the COMPAS Project, envisioned a series of three inter-related
events centered around
the theme, "Building Leadership Capacity for a Multicultural
Society in the 21 st Century:
Challenges, Opportunities, and Strategies."
One year later, after many hours of work, the COMPAS Project
is proud to report the
successful realization of these events. Furthermore, the COMPAS
Project, through its
efforts, has helped to develop a communication and relationship
infrastructure for public
policy professionals that has the potential to affect both current
and future generations of
public policy leaders. This infrastructure has helped to energize
public policy
constituencies across the country and hopes to be a starting
point for a national
organization devoted to furthering the goals of public policy
professionals of color.
It is the hope of the COMPAS Project, that the seeds for further
action have been laid
and that the successes of future initiatives can be built upon
the groundwork that was
created.
Sincerely,
THE COMPAS PROJECT
