A Quick Word About the COMPAS Project... The COMPAS Project is a three-phased initiative designed to address the need to build a solid foundation for multicultural leadership for the 21st Century. Organized in early 2000, the COMPAS Project is coordinated by a multi-ethnic volunteer steering committee, many of whom are alumni of the Sloan, Woodrow Wilson, and Public Policy and International Affairs Fellowship Programs from 1980-1999. Primary funding for the COMPAS Project is made possible through assistance from the Academy for Educational Development's Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellowship Program through a grant from the Ford Foundation. Additional funding and support have been provided by AT&T, Columbia University, and Georgetown University.
About the COMPAS Strategic Planning Committee... In the wake of the October 2000 COMPAS Retreat, a special Strategic Planning Committee was formed to formulate next steps on the road to developing a sustainable and vibrant network national organization of minority policy professionals. Comprised of a diverse group of students & professionals, who work on a wide array domestic and international policy issues in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, the Strategic Planning Committee has members in Boston, New York City, and Washington D.C. What's Next for the COMPAS Project... In early 2001 the COMPAS Project will begin its third and final phase with the goal of officially launching an organization to continue the work of the COMPAS Project in late 2001. Convened through a series of conference calls and internet discussion tools the COMPAS Project will facilitate a series of "Virtual Summits" in 2001. These Virtual Summits are designed to serve as a forum to discuss issues raised during the COMPAS Retreat in relation to creating a network for public policy professionals of color. Additionally, these Virtual Summits are designed to allow members of the COMPAS Strategic Planning Committee to exchange ideas and information with other related initiatives occurring in Texas and California in 2000-01.
