Just a little information that the grandchildren and great grandchildren
of
Edith and Jack Cannon may not know. Jack or Papa as most of us knew him joined
the navy in 1941.He completed his basic
training in San Diego Calif. He was
aboard the USS Dixie ship. Some of his duties on this ship were cook, laundry
and
also preparing the ship for departure. He was in Pearl Harbor during
World WarII.He was shot twice in the hip area during
this war.He left the US
Navy in 1945.
And just a little fun information for you grandsons....He liked to tease
all
of you when you needed a hair cut...but he had a ear ring...YES!!!PAPA!!!!
His ear was pierced when the ship crossed the
equadator.He also sported two large
tatoos! One of a cowgirl on his right arm and a heart with a banner on the left.

Not only did Jack enjoy working with animals of any kind he loved them!
He had many
farm animals he raised not only to help feed his family but he
loved as pets.He worked, trained and cared for them as long
as his health
would permit.During his "younger years" he rode in many parades and grand
entries of rodeos.James and
Terry his sons rode along side of him in these
events.Jack also rode with a group that performed square danceing on horse
back..."this was a sight to see"His wife Edith putting her sewing skills to
work made very fancy western shirts for
the three of them to wear,as I
recall she made many of these for several members of the square dance
club! We attended
many, many parades and rodeos as a family. His children and
grandchildren have the same love of animals as he did. They raised
animals
for 4H,some just raised their animals for pets and then some rode horses in
ropeing and other events.

Papa loved to spend a Sunday afternoon takeing the grandchildren for a ride
in a
buggy pulled by his horses.Sometimes they just rode the fields and
sometimes they rode what he called a "section".They
would pick up tin cans
for recycleing. The kids didnt care where they rode as long as they were with
papa.
Not only do the Cannons love rodeoing they also love other outdoor sports as
well.Papa
plays a game of "horse" with Mike. They also love football softball
baseball raceing and a little water fun, weather it
be fishing or just
playing around.
