We are fortunate from time to time to enjoy bands from other areas, adding even more variety to our venue. Here we keep a list of visiting bands along with their scheduled dates in Dallas. This cultural exchange will enhance contra dancing for each city's dance group and we encourage and support those who are willing to travel and share their music.

Now in their fourth generation of family fiddling, the Young Family String Band features dance tunes of the early frontier days. Most of their tunes date from the mid 1800's or before, and many are from early days of native Texas music.
Like the early Texas settlers, The Youngs have maintained close musical ties with Tennessee and Kentucky, researching tunes and playing with quite a number of musicians there.
The Young Family String Band began public performing in 1997 at the Huntsville, Bryan-College Station, and Houston contra dances, the Star of Texas Museum at Washington on the Brazos, the Fourth of July on the Square, and the Spring Gala for Sam Houston State University's College of Arts and Science. More recently, the Young Family String Band went into radioland on KUT fm to promote Austin's 3rd Saturday dance they played for in June.
Marynell and Gene Young have played in several bands over the years including: Hardin Valley String Band (Knoxville, TN, 1977-79), King's English String Band (with eight professors of the Texas A&M English Department 1979-1983), White Horse String Band (eastern KY, 1984-1992) and more recently with their daughters and sons-in-law as the Young Family String Band.
