MAKE
YOURSELF AT HOME: FENG SHUI TIPS
By

Feng Shui literally means
"wind and water". Its practitioners believe they can alter
environmental energies called chi, so these energies flow through the home like
a gentle breeze. Many feng shui
cures are easy, inexpensive and based on common sense. This article will cover
some bedroom basics and the importance of purging and getting rid of clutter.
Bedroom Basics:
In Feng Shui the placement of the bed in the bedroom is vital since
we spend almost one third of the day sleeping.
-Make sure the room does not get an
overabundance of sun light during the day or it could cause restlessness or
insomnia.
-The bed must not face the door.
-The bed must not be below an exposed ceiling
beam.
-The toilet or kitchen door must not face the
bed.
-Corners of any furniture should not face the
bed.
-Avoid a television screen facing the bed.
-Avoid mirrors facing the bed.
-Avoid anything sharp facing the bed.
-Avoid openings on the roof of the bedroom
i.e. skylight.
Creating Sacred Space:
Another important basic is to free up space
in order to let the chi circulate. It is so hard for many of us to let go of
our possessions. I have provided seven questions for your purging mission in
order to help you with this task! Ask yourself the following questions:
1 - Do I love it?
2 - Do I need it?
3 - Does it reflect who I am in life now?
4 - Does it act as an environmental
affirmation for me?
5 - Think of any thoughts, memories or
emotions that you associate with this item. Does it evoke anything positive?
6 - Does the item need to be fixed or
repaired? If it needs to be repaired, am I willing to do so now?
7 - If I move tomorrow, would I choose to
take this item with me? If not, then would I sell it or give it away? If so,
would I jot down a date that I will do this?
If the item does not meet the above criteria,
I would recommend that you part with that item as soon as possible. As you let
go and unload your baggage, you will almost feel yourself becoming lighter
instantly! Your spirits will be lifted and, most importantly, you create more
space for the chi to flow.
Remember - you don’t have to wait until the Spring time to perform your spring-cleaning, do it now!
