A POCKETFUL OF MOONBEAMS
By Patricia Darrow, Astrologer
Much has been written about the romance, the rhythms and the madness of the moon! We certainly know there are more hospital admissions and crime when the moon is full. The moon’s cycles do have a rhythm that seems to establish and govern the rhythms of all life cycles such as the tides, the rain, fertility, woman’s menstrual cycles and plant life.
The waxing phase of the moon occurs when it goes from being in the new phase to the full phase. It is an excellent time to begin new projects and to acquire new things in your life. It is usually a good period for everyone too.
The waning phase is the day after a full moon that is working toward the new phase. This is an outstanding time for people to rid themselves of undesirable things in their lives such as weight or unhealthy relationships, etc.
The moon goes through the 12 signs of the zodiac in a lunar month of 28 days.
Approximately every 2 ½ days, the moon enters a new zodiac sign and, therefore, has profound influence on us. Listed below are it’s various energies:
Moon in Aries: Things move quickly but energy is short-lived. Watch out for impulsiveness. People may be more aggressive and be prone to taking action. A favorable time for anybody looking for new ventures or opportunities.
Moon in Taurus: Not a good time to make any changes. Caution and hard work are the themes now. Also a good time to handle banking matters.
Moon in Gemini: Playfulness is in the air now! A really great time to catch up on all types of correspondence and/or communication of all types. Finish writing letters, read that book, play on the internet or spend a day at a bookstore.
Moon in Cancer: Sensitivities and emotions run high. Some people may feel insecure. Pay extra attention to family and home concerns. A nice time to go down memory lane!
Moon in Leo: Dancing and merrymaking should be the order of the day! Favorable days for extravagant parties and lavish entertainment. Devote more time to children. Have fun, take center stage and express yourself!
Moon in Virgo: Emphasis is on details and organization. Shop for bargains, tend to health regimens, and don’t forget to pay some extra attention to your pets!
Moon in Libra: Cooperation and harmony prevails with others. Partnerships should be satisfactory. Not a bad time to explore the arts. Shop for clothes and pamper yourself with a beauty treatment.
Moon in Scorpio: Money can become an obsession now. You could become suspicious of others or vice versa. A good time to clean out household items and re-cycle them. Also a good time for some introspection or to read some intriguing books on metaphysics.
Moon in Sagittarius: A splendid time for travel or to plan an adventure! People seem to be more forthright than usual. Optimism is infectious. A new field of learning may appeal to some. The great outdoors may beckon. Try a sporting event.
Moon in Capricorn: Practicality appeals now – so does routine and schedules. Moods may be more serious or sober now. An ideal time to progress the career goals.
Moon in Aquarius: Social activities and concerns may prevail now. A marvelous time to participate in organizations and associations. Also, a good time to plan for the future or to work on something creative.
Moon in Pisces: A dreamy period that is conducive for any artistic or spiritual endeavors. A hidden talent may be discovered. Also a nice time to visit the bedridden or help your favorite charity. If you feel less energetic, than sit down and record your dreams in a journal or plan a trip to the movie theater.
In Astrology, the moon resonates to the water sign of Cancer and to the 4th house. This sign and house governs family, the home, parents, security, psychological roots, and memories. It also relates closely to the sub conscious, foundations, cycles, femininity, intuition, emotions, creativity and the nuturing forces of nature.
Lunar occupations can range anywhere from naval careers, sailors, fishermen, lifeguards, nurses, hotel management, antique business, restaurant business, housekeeping, nannies, day-care for children, psychics, mediums, or just an old-fashioned housewife and mom!
In closing, let me encourage you to add a little more lunar magic into your life today. This can be done by baking crescent-shaped cookies in your kitchen, or planting Moonflowers in your garden. Incorporate the colors of silvery gray into your wardrobe or meditate on the High Priestess or Moon Card in the Tarot. Try gazing at the moon before settling in a warm, Honeysuckle fragrant bubble bath where you can ruminate on your previous night’s dreams!
