GETTING REAL WITH THE SECOND HOUSE

By Patricia Darrow, Astrologer

The second house has two floors to it. On the top level it rules money, finances, possessions, ownership and values. This house is solid - paint it up in earth tones. Decorate it with sparkling copper wares. Toss some emerald green pillows around for comfort and bake some bread in the it’s oven. On the ground level, this is the house where you should learn how to honor your own self-worth and praise your resourcefulness.

The second house resonates to the zodiac sign of Taurus and to the planet of Venus. In the Tarot, it is associated with the cards of the Empress and the Hierophant. It correlates to the number six in numerology. I know of no book written specifically on the second house, however there are two books written on the planet Venus that may help one glean the energies of the second house. The books are:

Venus : The Evolution of the Goddess and Her Planet by Ronnie Gale Dreyer and Venus: The Gift of Love by Martin Schulman.

If you are interested in accumulating wealth in your life, let me suggest that you take a green candle, anoint it with a little Patchouli Oil and light it on a Friday. Then take some deep breaths, relax and do some positive visualizations for bringing in more prosperity into your life. You can even create a treasure map; a collage of cut-out pictures of different things that you would like to acquire and materialize into your life.

Some key phrases for all of the planets in this second house are:

Sun in the 2nd
Creative with money; materialistic; likes to buy possessions with their money; Strong feelings of self-worth.

Moon in the 2nd
Emotional security linked with their possessions and money; measures self-worth with money and material things; can be a pack-rat with their possessions.

In closing, any person who is really in touch with their second house, who lives according to spiritual values, as opposed to materialistic ones, realizes that he himself is the one ultimate possession to surrender to human evolution. By doing this, you can free yourself from being owned by your possessions. Your possessions, in essence, cannot possess you anymore! In doing so, you can become a real person of sustenance and create a solid foundation for this strong house.
