I’m sitting here at my desk on a Friday – no wonder the phrase is popular "Thank God it’s Friday!" This is the day ruled by the planet Venus – the goddess of love, peace, beauty and harmony. I ask…what could be more pleasant?

Some things that fall under the rulership of Venus are as follows: art, music, drama, social matters, relationships, beauticians, and cosmeticians. Even more are dressmakers, tailors, decorators, clothing, ornaments, and florists.

In astrology, Venus governs the throat and the kidneys. It rules the zodiac signs of Libra and Taurus until the planet of Horus is discovered for Taurus. It’s metal is copper and rules the colors of green, pink and most of the soft pastels. It gravitates to the flowers of violets and daffodils, and in scents and oils has dominion over vanilla and rose. Its corresponding tarot cards are the Empress Card and the Justice Card, and it harmonizes to the rune of Wunjo. Pick out six vibrations in numerology!

When working with transits in astrology, check out the planet of Venus for issues on beauty, money, values, sharing and relationships.

Below are some tidbits that I have observed throughout the years:

The planetary energies of Venus opposition Neptune can be unrequited love.

The planetary energies of Venus square Neptune can be a "ghostly lover".

When Venus makes an opposition to Mars in a natal chart, you can be sure the person has issues with the opposite sex and probably has difficulty maintaining a satisfying relationship.

When Venus makes a square or opposition to Saturn, people usually have problems expressing their affection towards their significant other.

If someone has Venus conjunct Saturn, there is a good chance there is a significant age difference with their partner.

If one has the planet of Venus on their Ascendant, they could very well be beautiful, attractive and lucky enough to possess a "peaches and cream" complexion, and many times even have dimples on their cheeks or a cleft on their chin! Personality wise, they can be extremely charming and gracious.

In a man’s chart, look to his Venus placement and that will usually describe his ideal woman. For further description of Venus, look to the sign on the 2nd and 7th house cusps and any aspects to Venus that he has in his chart.

In a woman’s chart, Venus indicates what she needs romantically – for example:

Venus in Aries – forcefulness from a partner

Venus in Taurus – likes to receive jewelry from a partner

Venus in Pisces – give her some soft music and candlelight

Venus in Leo – fishes for compliments from an attentive, admiring swain!

Venus in Gemini – may play some mind games with you.

Venus in Cancer – may include mom on the date!

Venus in Virgo – could be very picky with who she dates

Venus in Libra – another incurable romantic – woo her with chocolates and champagne

Venus in Scorpio – needs faithfulness from a partner

Venus in Sagittarius – needs freedom and space in a relationship

Venus in Capricorn – likes to dine at an exclusive eating establishment

Venus in Aquarius -??anything goes!

While working with any planetary aspects, I encourage one to blend, blend, blend!

I will use Venus and Neptune here:

Some examples of the blending of Venus and Neptune are:

-One’s need for love moves into a dream world

-One’s sense of ideal form is given imaginative dimensions.

-One’s dreams take on human beauty.

-The meeting is like an escape into beautiful surroundings.

-The pair look as if they are moving in a pretty film.

-Enjoying a romantic film such as "Gone With The Wind".

-Laying around listening to New Age music.

-Painting some spiritual portraits or paintings of angels

-Sitting in a garden writing up some poetry.

Sometimes people born with a Venus Retrograde can have relationship problems. Many times the man will have a roving eye and have trouble staying faithful. A woman with a Venus Retrograde, may have problems committing to a relationship as well.

Many prostitutes have a natal Venus in Virgo or Capricorn.

Someone with a natal Venus on the Midheaven are known for their beauty i.e. Marilyn Monroe. These people could also work in the beauty industry in some way.

Venus aspects with Pluto usually indicate intensity and jealousy and possessiveness if the aspects are harsh. If they are soft aspects can indicate a soul mate relationship.

Venus aspected with Uranus can create some on-again/off-again, unpredictable type of relationships, as well as some unusual sources of money.

When Venus is conjunct Jupiter in a transit, be prepared to receive some gifts and a general feeling of being blessed!

And of course, there is the classic Venus conjunct another’s Mars for a real dynamic sexual attraction. But unless other stable aspects are there i.e. a Saturn tie, it may not be lasting.

I have to close now to …indulge in a Venusian cream puff …oh didn’t I tell you that Venus has a "sweet tooth"?
