New Program Replaces the 'Just Read It' Program Our New program will begin September 20th and be in two four week sections.
The second part of the program will take place in early spring. We
are beginning this new program in the hopes that we can get every student
to participate in the program. We have simplified the format and
added an extra incentive part of the program that will serve two purposes;
the first is to increase comprehension and the second is to incorporate
the terminology being used by the Washington State Department of Education's
guidelines
for reading.

| Program Overview
Here is how the program works: on Monday of each week your child
will bring home a 'passport'. On the cover put the child's name,
teacher's name, and room number. On the inside you will see 5 columns.
The first column has the days of the week, the next column is "type of
reading". Check the key on the back of the passport. Put the
key "letter" of the type of reading your child has done.
The next column is "title of what you have read". The 4th column
is for PTA's use. The last column is the "Parent/Guardian/Adult"
signature line for you or an adult at school to acknowledge the student
having read. We ask the "Parent/Guardian/Adult" ask the student a
couple of questions regarding what they have read (Who, What, Why, When,
Where...) then sign off for that day of the week. The second part
of the program each week along with the passport will be a grade level
"Book Critique" form. Your child needs to read every day and do at
least one "Book Critique" to receive the first grand prize. If your
child does not read everyday they can make up points by doing more than
one "Book Critique" per week.
