Roadrunner Facts
  • SIZE: Length, 20 to 25 inches, including the tail; weight, 6 ¾ ounces.
  • RANGE: Central valley of California, throughout the Southwest, into the southern part of the prairie states and Texas, and south into Mexico.
  • HABITAT: Chaparral, desert scrub and other arid brush.
  • DIET: Insects, birds, snails, lizards, snakes, mice, bats, scorpions, tarantulas, black widows, bits of plants. 
  • STATUS: Common; protected by law in Arizona.
