EEI conducts emergency rudder repairs for large ocean-going vessels, as in this instance of a large petroleum carrier's rudder.  and rudder shaft. The tapered bore was repair welded, and remachined for the 22 inch diameter rudder stock, with Everett Engineering's custom portable boring machine.

The project included cold straightening of the 22 inch by 25 foot rudder stock, which was bent approximately 3/4 inches, and recutting of the  taper on the stock.

Above is shown the rudder's tapered bore being machined by Everett Engineering's custom portable boring machine.  Straightening of the 22 inch by 25 foot shaft was done in lieu of making a new shaft, which would have required procuring of ABS shafting, which was not available in a reasonable amount of time, and would have been a much greater expense.
