Purpose: learn to use the tools of the director: script, actors, scenery, costumes, lights, sound, and special effects; and to use these tools in a creative process that leads to play production.
Class objective: direct a short play.
Goals: learn to analyze and plan all the stages of the directing process, including: script analysis, casting, ground plans, blocking, lighting plans, prompt books, costume plates, and makeup plates.
Week:
1. Introduction to directing.
2. Choose a script.
3. Analyze the script, develop a production concept, and start the prompt book.
4. Develop a ground plan.
5. Plan the physical action and stage pictures.
6. Plan the costumes.
7. Plan the lights.
8. Plan the sound and special effects.
9. Cast the play, and build a rehearsal schedule.
10. Begin reading rehearsals.
11. Rehearse the play, discuss production problems, and continue to develop the prompt book.

14. Perform the play.
