TASK #5
Develop character descriptions.
Using the first person singular, write about your characters as though you are the character you are describing. Go through the following outline of character traits as a basis of your descriptions. The two major characters of your play should be completely disclosed. Other characters may be explained to suit the function they serve in the play.
CHARACTER TRAITS
- Biological and physical traits.
- Describe the way your character looks, dresses, and sounds. If a character has a physical disability, include it in your description. Include in your account the way the characters move.
- Habitual traits and characteristic attitudes.
- Socio-economic traits.
- Describe family background, religion, education, and occupation, including the suitability of what they do for a living. Explain how this background influences their behavior.
- Personal relationships.
- Explain the relationship that you have with each character you have in the play. Dwell on the most important association the major character has within the action of the play.
- Goals and ambitions
What is it above all else that the character desires?
- What obstacles stand in their way?
- What are they willing to do to gain their desire.
- What steps along the way do they attempt that leads them to success or failure?
- Feelings and Emotions
- How does your character feel about what happens?
- Thinking and Decisions
- What decision must your character make?
- Is the decisions made?
- Is the decision of a moral or ethical nature?
