First Strike

eight_01ttsFrom the creator of Rei Rei, Toshimitsu Shimizu, comes an elite group of pilots who all fight like women... because they are women! They're the 801st Tactical Training Squadron of Japan's Air Self Defense Force, and if these high-flying femmes spent half as much time focusing on the opposition as they do in fighting each other, they'd be the most feared jet jockeys in the history of aviation! The trouble starts as soon as Flight Maintenance Specialist Takuya Isurugi walks into the hangar housing the newly formed 801st Tactical Training Squadron. Not only does the squadron's mascot, a malicious little bat, immediately decide that Takuya doesn't belong, but exactly how does one ingratiate one's self with an entirely female flight squadron when you manage, in your first two minutes, to walk in on two completely naked pilots while holding their panties in your hand? To make matters even worse, the naked pilots in question turn out to be arch-rivals Miyuki Haneda and Arisa Mitaka, top contenders for the title of "Ace of the 801st," both of whom quickly lock on to the potential profitability of making a "preemptive strike" on the affections of the squadron's new maintenance officer! Faster than you can say "bombs away!" full scale aerialist-to-aerialist combat erupts with an unfortunate Takuya caught in the cross hairs! Even disregarding the fire fight between the two heavenly aces, there are still the "minor" problems of senior officers who want to shut the squadron down altogether, a rash of mysterious mechanical malfunctions, and an all important aerial acrobatics test looming on the horizon. Will Isurugi and laid-back 1st. Sgt. Sakura Saginomiya be able to get the fledgling Airbats off the ground? Will Sgt. Mitaka do anything to get to be the 801st T.T.S.' top gun? Will Sgt. Haeda be able to overcome her frustrating fear of flying? And will petite Sgt. Youko Shimorenjaku be able to break her pet bat of the habit of attacking young men? For the answer to these and other questions, check out 801 T.T.S. Airbats!

Second Strike

From haunted hot springs to deadly airborne duels, the 801st Airbats take on all comers. A restful vacation is hardly that when the hot spring turns out to be haunted. Even worse, it's the dead of winter, the hotel is snowed in and Sgt. Saginomiya insists on having Karaoke parties! Having survived a week-long sing along, playing host to the world famous aeronautical acrobatics team of the USAF, the Thunderbirds, should be child's play for the Airbats. However, rival teams of proud pilots are an international incident waiting to happen, and the skies over Japan become a battleground once more when the lovely captain of the Thunderbirds challenges Mitaka to a head to head showdown in 801 T.T.S. Airbats Second Strike!

Third Strike

Eating is a serious business in the military and the announcement of a ramen noodle eating contest is an event not to be missed. As casual wagering on the outcome escalates into a frenzied multi-national gambling racket, all eyes turn to the daring young men and women of the 801st T.T.S. Airbats. Who among them will emerge as the ultimate victor? Then, learn a few secrets from Saginomiya's lovelorn past.

Commentary

From the creator of Rei Rei, comes the tale of the Airbats- an all female squadron of fighter pilots (just think A.D. Vision) and their over-worked flight mechanic. A nice comedy with a surprise dream sequence. A tiny bit of skin, some humor, and... oh, yes - I almost forgot, there are jets.

I used to have the first volume on subtitled VHS. Even though I liked this title very much, I didn't feel compelled to have the rest of the series on VHS when it was available. I did, however, take the time to transfer my one VHS volume to DVD.
