 | Officer John P. DeRossette
Officer DeRossette was shot in the back and killed by Claude
Taylor on January 30, 1917. Officer DeRosset had apprehended Taylor and Earnest
Cooley. While searching Cooley, the officer was shot in the back by Taylor.
Both men were later caught. Taylor received a life sentence, while Cooley received a
lesser sentence.
