Lieutenant Gary Dudley

On August 22, 2006, while riding in a charity bicycle ride to honor the fallen heroes of Indiana, and Indiana Concerns of Police Survivors Indiana State Trooper Lieutenant Gary Dudley and retired Lake County Sheriff's Department Chief Gary Martin answered their final call. Into the seventh day of their annual ride their support vehicle was struck from behind on SR 63 just north of Perrysville, Indiana, and the collision shoved the support vehicle into the riders killing Lieutenant Dudley and Chief Martin and injuring retired Indianapolis Police Department Officer Spencer Moore, and the driver of the support vehicle "Rocky" Bumpus.

Lieutenant Dudley, age 51 was a 26 year veteran of the Indiana State Police, and served as Commander of the Indiana State Police Academy for the past 16 years. He began his career assigned to the Lowell post and was twice awarded the Life Saving Award, in 1989 and 1992.

Lieutenant Dudley is survived by his wife Carolyn, father Orsel, and brother Dan.
