Officer William Dwyer
09/15/1860 - 04/02/1908
Chief of Detectives William Dwyer was killed in a gun battle at the Vigo County Court House, Circuit Court Room, on April 2, 1908. A man just convicted for possessing dynamite, pulled a gun and began firing. Several persons were wounded, as officers returned fire. Chief Dwyer was 47 years old and in law enforcement for over 20 years.
