The Hawaiian Historical Calendar


The Hawaiian calendar is based on lunar cycles - refered to as a metonic calendar. There were separate night names, one for each night of the lunar cycle. Since the lunar cycle varies, astronomic observations dictated varying the name sequences.
This calendar is in 'western-grid'. Months are identified in english and subtitled in pre-western Hawaiian. Because lunar cycles don't allign well with the western calendar, Hawaiian names are approximate to the western month.

Hawaiian night names are also listed, along with graphic phases of the moon over Hawai'i.
