Home of Kamehameha from 1812 to his passing in 1819
Shortly after Kamehameha's death
dowager queen  Ka 'ahumanu
and Kamehameha's son Liholiho
sat for a feast here,
thus breaking the 'ai kapu

a tradition against men and women eating together.

Upon completion of their meal,
they jointly declared an end to the Kapu system,


In the months to follow, there were many social changes caused by the fall of Kapu. Even religion was greatly challenged, mamy statues and temples were destroyed.


Later that same year,
the first New England missionaires arrived in Hawai 'i
The Calvinists frist landing was here, on a group of rocks just west of what's now Kailua pier
