| Home | Overview Elton was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947 in Pinner Middlesex, England. His Mother, Sheila, and his Father, Stanley, were divorced when Elton was young. His Mother re-married a man named Fred (Derf, as Elton calls him). Elton was accepted into the Royal Academy of Music when he was 11. He dropped out, but continued doing what he loved most, making music. In 1967 Elton met Bernie Taupin when both men responded to an ad in the New Music Express in England. The team went on to be one of the most successful writers in music. They enjoy 30 years of consecutive Top 40 hits (although not all were written with Bernie). Gary Osborne, Tim Rice and others have also have worked with Elton. Elton's biological father was very hard on him and Elton grew up with many deep seeded problems which carried themselves over into adulthood. Elton struggled with addictions i.e. alcohol, drugs and bulimia. After years and years of struggling with these addictions, he finally sought treatment in 1990. Incredibly, he was able to become clean and sober in a short period of time. Soon after, he began fighting for a cause which he feel very strongly about...AIDS. He started the Elton John Aids Foundation, which has raised over 13 million dollars for AIDS and it's related causes. Elton and Bernie continue to write and record. Elton's true passion is performing live. He is known all over the world for his incredible stage performances and having a way of really connecting with the audience. Recently Elton teamed up with Tim RIce on a new project called AIDA. He has his own record label/movie company called Rocket Records/Rocket Pictures. He is starting to expand and get into movies. He will be writing the scores on some up coming movies, and also producing. There is no doubt that we have not even come close to seeing the end of Elton's career, and that he will continue to be successful at whatever he does.
