My Concerts
This was my first EJ concert!! I was very excited......and counted the minutes until it finally arrived! My Mom and I went, with seats just below the upper level, on the right side. They still were far enough away that we needed binoculars. Which was fine with me. I was just happy to be there. When he first came out I had to pinch myself. I just couldn't believe I was in the same room with him. Anyway, the concert was incredible. I couldn't believe that the people in the front section were sitting down almost 1/2 way through the show. The crowd finally got in to it later and turned out to be a great show overall. Elton and the band sounded great from where I was sitting. I was very happy with the set list, although there were several songs that I would have liked to hear. It was very and incredible night, and looked forward to another show the next night.
For this show I planned our family trip around with our kids and my Mom. Of course, I developed a cold of some sort that morning on the drive to San Diego (6 hour drive). As the day progressed, I felt worse and worse. But there was no way that I was going to miss this concert! I attended this one by my self, with a very good seat about 15 rows above the orchestra pit. I was soooo incredibly excited for this one. Before the show I started talking to the security guy. He was very friendly and eventually told me he would let me down to the stage. So about the 2nd song (Grey Seal) I was down front. I immediately ran over to John Jorgenson and let my presence be known to him. :-) I was the only one dancing in front of him, and I am sure I looked like a total dork in front of 20,000 people. But I was just happy John J. acknowledged me. Then I took my place in front of EJ's piano against the stage. I couldn't see him, except when he peeked around the piano, or stood up or walked around. The crowd was much more up beat for this show. He didn't play SATWYLT, which was surprising. Probably thought it might spoil the fairly up beat mood. Elton seemed in a much better spirits.. It was so incredible and couldn't believe I was so close to him. What an experience!!! I was thrilled!!!
This was a last minute trip that my husband and I decided would be good for me. We needed a little break from each other (we spend 24 hours a day together) and I needed time away from the kids to get "refreshed". I left Phoenix with no ticket for this concert. I was taking a huge chance, assuming that there would be tickets released for show day. Well, as soon as I landed I took a cab directly to the venue. I was a little scared when I saw that there was no line and a sign that said "Sold Out" I got a little nervous. I asked the girl and she said she would check just in case. I got extremely lucky...1 ticket left about 13 rows behind the orchestra pit. I decided to try to talk to the Security person again when I got in, (give it another shot) and right away (after hearing my traveling story) she said...oh, we gotta get you down there then. I was so happy. Then about an hour before show time I noticed John Jorgenson talking to someone at the stage. The security lady told me to run down there and say hi. So I ran down and said "HI" and talked to him for a couple minutes. What a nice guy!! He gave me a pic while I was there. I am kicking myself for not asking for an autograph. But I didn't want to bug him so I made it short. Then about 1/2 way through the show the security lady came and got me and escorted me down to the stage :-) There I was, 4 hours earlier without a ticket in my hand and now I was at the stage. I ran over to John J. and said Hi, then took my place again in front of EJ's piano. Same view as in San Diego. This was the first time that I got an autograph. He grabbed my hat (my new TBP tour hat I just bought) and signed it. I freaked out and couldn't believe what just happened!!!!! Then to top it off, Davey came over and gave me a pic. WOW, what a night!!!! The show was fabulous, and Elton seemed in a very good mood. This was a very incredible evening for me and I will never forget it, and not to mention...well worth the trip!!!!! Set Lists Here is the set list for the shows. The song line up was basically the same unless otherwise noted. Circle of life, Grey Seal, Goodbye yellow brick road, Honky cat, Tiny dancer, Levon, I guess that's why they call it the blues, I don't wanna go on with you like that, Don't let the sun go down on me, Daniel, Rocket man, Roy Rogers (Skipped at Denver), Crocodile rock, Your song, Recover your soul, Mona lisa and mad hatters, Philadelphia freedom, Simple life, The one, Sad songs, Something about the way you look tonight (Skipped in San Diego), I'm going to be a teenage idol, The bitch is back, Saturday night's alright for fighting (Bennie and the Jets here at Denver) Encore 1: Lucy in the sky with diamonds, Great balls of fire Encore 2: Bennie and the jets (Saturday night's alright for fighting here at Denver)
My 4th Concert was incredible also! My husband and I took a little trip and flew to Louisiana to attend one of the solo shows. We were lucky enough to get upgraded to the 2nd row!!! I took lots of pictures (which turned out fantastic!) and got 2 autographs, he signed my "To be continued box set book" and my program and even touched his hand :-) The show was so awesome!! Compared to the first 3 shows I have been to, I have to admit that his mood wasn't quite as good. Although it was still an incredible show and I was happy to have been so close to him again.
What a night. For this show I traveled from San Jose by bus (my family and I were living in San Jose temporarily at the time) for 4 hours to Fresno. I was fortunate enough to meet up with some fellow Newsgrouper, and we had a blast. We were able to be at the stage as soon as he stepped foot on it! The Fresno crowd was pumped...and thus, Elton was right from the very start. This is by far the most energetic show I have seen! I was extremely thrilled to witness one of those rare shows when his energy level is through the roof. He was reported as telling a Boston radio station that Fresno was his best show of the tour!!! I was lucky enough to get another autograph, on my Tumbleweed Connection CD booklet. What a night..I will never forget it. Thanks EJfan1973, Sgt. Zippo and Shamoo for an incredible evening!!
