1/144 Scale Gundam X
This is the latest kit built by my son and I, and was finished
in October. For this kit, I
primarily cleaned up nipper marks with a razor, glued joints after assembly
with Tenax and did the lining/painting.
It was up to my son to figure out the instructions, find parts on the
trees, remove them with nipper and then assemble the pieces. Overall the kit is very nice and has
decent proportions, matching the lithe profile of the Anime. The Gundam X 1/144 kits are in general
much better than the similar 1/144 Wing kits in looking like they are supposed
to. There is however one detail
omitted, probably due to scale:
the 4-barrel Gattling cannon that fires over the left shoulder. Posing is typical for this generation
kit, similar to the 1/144 Gundam Wing or HG 08th MST 1/144
kits. The torso twist in
particular is outstanding due to the slim midsection of the design, but the hip
mobility is somewhat lacking. This
can be fixed by widening the rear of the socket on the thighs so the leg can
splay out more. Ankle mobility is
pretty limited, but not a big problem.
Finally, as expected, the monster cannon and X wings tend to pull the
little guy over.
The
kit was partially painted. The
dark blue stripes on the arms, legs and shoulders are automotive lacquer. The top of the feet and the cockpit
hatch on the chest were painted white.
The rifle and satellite cannon were white, so any parts not white were
painted. The red on the head and
waist were painted with Gunze-Sangyo lacquers, and panel lines filled with a
005 Micron pen. The beam sabre was
painted with Boyd’s Lime Pearl enamel.
