What are your excuses? Full time job? Family obligations? Homework? REMEMBER, our members have regular full time jobs or attend school and have family obligations, and they find time to help their community, CAN'T YOU?

When you become a MVVAC member, you will learn first aid. With this knowledge, you will know what to do in an Emergency. Knowing what to do quickly, someday you can save the life of someone dear to you, a friend, or a neighbor or even your own.

You will be able to help your community in time of need. You will be recognized as a member of a helping profession. Getting involved with MVVAC may lead you to a career path. Many MVVAC members have become New York City Paramedics, Doctors, and other health related workers.

MVVAC is a COMMUNITY ORIENTED organization. It is not a private club. It consists of everyday people with a desire to help their community. Our members do not receive any remuneration for their time and service.

JOB DESCRIPTION

DISPATCHER:

The dispatcher answers the emergency telephone, records the information about the call, gives the information to the driver, and communicates with the ambulance via a two-way radio once the ambulance leaves the headquarters. There is no first aid training required to become a dispatcher, Each dispatcher must go through training on proper use of radio and obtaining information from the caller. The only qualification for the position of a dispatcher is being able to answer a phone. If you can answer a phone, you can dispatch for MVVAC.

 

DRIVER:

The driver is responsible for the ambulance at all times while "On-Duty". He/She drives the ambulance on all emergency calls and is the only person that can move the ambulance. The driver locates the address on the map, determines the quickest route to the scene and drives the ambulance to the scene using lights and siren. A driver must be at least 21 years of age and have a N.Y. State driver's license that is free from accidents and moving violations. The driver must hold at least a Standard First Aid Card and a CPR Card. Training in ambulance driving is provided by MVVAC.

 

ATTENDANT / CREW CHIEF:

Attendant and Crew Chief administer first aid to the patient. Crew Chief is the lead attendant and is in total charge of the medical aspect of the call. Attendant is trained in First Aid and CPR. The Crew Chief must go through additional training and must hold N.Y. State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license. Each MVVAC crew must have at least one EMT. Once the ambulance arrives on the scene, the Crew Chief examines the patient to determine the extent of the illness or injury, the type of care to be rendered, and the hospital to which the patient is to be delivered.
