"Brighter Tomorrows" is a Verizon Telecom Pioneer led employee collection drive that
was held during October 2006 (Domestic Violence Awareness Month) The goal of this drive was to collect age-appropriate
comfort items that can be packaged into Verizon branded backpacks that were distributed to designated police precincts
(and social service and domestic violence agencies) that handle domestic violence cases. When young children are
brought to police stations because of domestic disturbances, there is often nothing to help distract them while their
families' immediate safety and shelter needs are being addressed. Therefore, by providing the police stations with
backpacks filled with items such as coloring books, crayons, toys, deck of cards, etc., those children will have
something to distract them during a very traumatic time. Norwesco Pioneer Club delivered 50 backpacks to the Everett
Police Department.
