Here is a close-up of the chrome B&M Hammer shifter and heater controlls in my 1991 Ford Mustang LX 5.0. Here are the things you can see from this view that differ from stock:

B&M Hammer shifter. Boy the price of this piece has sure gone down since I bought mine! I really like the way this looks compared to the stock shifter. Yes, this is an AOD car - I bought this shifter because of it's leather boot and big chrome handle, the fact that it is a ratchet shifter was just a bonus. For those who don't know what a ratchet shifter is, check out the B&M website for details www.bmracing.com. I decided to put the handle at an angle so that it fits my hand better when reaching for it - compared to having it perfectly straight.
This is the most involved modification that I did myself. I don't have enough experience working on cars, so I get most of my work done at shops ($$ouch$$) but I figured that I could handle this project. I did it over 3 days after work because the car was my daily driver at that time and I wanted to make sure it was drivable at the end of each day.
DAY 1: Removed entire center console - about 3/4 of an hour.
DAY 2: Swapped shifter - about 3 hours.
DAY 3: Replaced center console and wired up shifter light - about 2 hours.

Chrome heater and A/C knobs. These were my latest addition, and I am very happy with how they look. You can buy them from MGW at: www.mgwltd.com/mustangACknobs.html. They are $50 and $5 shipping - at this time they don't take orders over the web, you have to call them up or mail an order form. The knobs are also available in a brushed finish. These are NOT chrome plated plastic, they are metal! The website says that they fit 94 up Mustangs so I went to a junkyard and checked out a 94-98 car, guess what - the only difference is the shape of the bar that you hold onto, the base is exactly the same! You can use stock 94-98 pieces on 87-93 cars if you want, or these chrome pieces will fit 87-98. They might fit earlier and later cars, but I can definately vouch for 87-98. I would be willing to bet that they would fit all Ford vehicles with the same round controls. I don't know why MGW is limiting its marketing to 94 up Mustangs, but it does mean that this is something that not that many people have.

Sony stereo. The stereo in this car is not that good. I don't have giant speaker boxes filling the hatch back, and my car doesn't thump up and down. I just have some Pioneer speakers and the Sony deck, no amp. I don't think it sounds any better than the stock system, but now I can play CD's.
