Here is a view of the front interior of
my 1991 Ford Mustang LX 5.0. Here are the things you can see from this
view that differ from stock:
Leather seats. The seats
came out of a wrecket 1996 GT. The article I used to install the front
seats myself can be found on the Corral website - http://www.corral.net/tech/interior/saddle.html.
I agree with the article when it says that although the leather is wonderfully
soft and comfy, it doesn't hold you in nearly as well as cloth - so I
wouldn't put leather seats in a car that you plan on autocrossing. The
install is the same for cloth seats, though.
Another thing is the height of the seats. I am 6'2" and my head hits
the headliner on Mustangs without factory sunroofs. When I put these seats
in, my head was just about touching the headliner even with my sunroof.
I don't know if it is due to the fact that they have more cushion (talk
about a 'seat-of-the-pants' change!) or that they just run taller. To
fix this I had the shop that works on my car cut a piece out of the seat
tracks and then weld them back together. This put my head back where it
was with the stock seats. The drivers seat I bought had the power seat
attachment on it, and that added even more to the height - so I just junked
it. There is a small joystick type control that sits low on the front
of the seat to control the power mechanism, but you can't even see it
unless you are really trying. If you remove it there will be a hole in
the leather, so I just left it there - it doesn't effect anything by leaving
it there.
The other thing in this
picture is the cupholder that fits in the ashtray opening. I bought it
from Texas Mustang Parts - www.texasmustang.com
- 800-527-1588. I don't smoke, so no ashtray doesn't bother me. It does
interfere with access to the lighter, so if you plug a cell phone in there
you may have a problem. The actual cupholder has a bottom piece that just
slides into the ashtray hole (after removing the actual metal ashtray)
and has a velcro tab on the bottom that sticks to the carpet to help keep
it in place. You can just lift it out if you need access to the lighter.
It is a little too narrow - a can will fit fine, but a large pop won't.
Still I think it is a decent solution to the lack of a stock cupholder.
B&M Hammer shifter.
See the picture with a close-up of this for more info.
Rabbits foot hanging from
the turn signal lever. Well, what can I say? I have had that rabbits foot
since I was a kid, I just keep moving it from one car to the next every
time I get a new car (I mean used - I've never had a 'new' car). I'm not
trying to offend animal rights activists, and yes I've heard the joke
'it wasn't very lucky for the rabbit' - It just has sentimental value
- and I think it gives me about 5 extra HP ;-)
