FEATURED TOPIC
The Nauvoo Connection
Nauvoo, Illinois was, in 1845, either the largest or next to largest city in the state of Illinois.
A group of persons, who had formed a new church—the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, nicknamed
"Mormons"—which had gathered there was forced,
by mob action and political pressures,
to leave their beautiful city with its magnificent temple (see upper left—picture
taken at sunset in June 2004) and head into the unsettled west.
This temple, destroyed soon thereafter, was rebuilt in 2002 by grateful
descendants of those who were forced to flee.
Many of our ancestors were involved in this move—thus, the
"Nauvoo Connection".
