Batten Hinges
A couple of years ago, I purchased a used Hobie 16 that was equipped with batten hinges. After just one season, small holes began to form in the jib at the hinge points. Besides the sail wear, the jib shape was pretty screwed

Anti-Chafe Tape
A very heavy, highly adhesive tape that is applied to your batten pockets to protect sails from abrasion with shroud wires and the mast. Good solid stuff, and since it's clear it does not effect sail appearance.
