The Flame Nebula

NGC2024, the Flame Nebula, photographed from OMSI's Hancock Field Station in the Central Oregon Desert in April, 2000.

  • 12" F/10 LX200 SCT.
  • 45 Minute Exposure
  • Hypered Kodak PPF film.
  • Autoguided using Pictor 216XT stand-alone mode.
  • Note: This photo was the first of the night and was planned to be no more than a test since the nebula was low in the sky and the crescent Moon was nearby and provided quite a bright background. Definitely lost some contrast and I would like to try it again when it was high in the sky on a dark night.
