Two Policemen Killed in Mob Shootout

Two New York policemen were killed in an early morning raid in Harlem.  Officers William Clancy, 35,  and Brian O'Hara, 32, died in the line of duty as NYPD stormed a notorious mob stronghold on 139th Street.   Used by mobsters for bootlegging, gambling, and narcotics activity, the dilapidated building caught fire during a gun battle between police and gangsters and burned to the ground.  Police speculate that stockpiles of illegal liquor contributed to the blaze.

Services for Officers Clancy and O-Hara will be held at 10 AM at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Monday, with interment to follow at Shadyside Cemetery.
