Several years ago we began searching for multicultural Catholic resources for our children, especially Black Catholic resources. They were very hard to find. We decided to share the ones we had found with other families who might be looking for the same thing. If you know of any we have missed, please let us know.

The Catholic Church in Africa

Saint Sabina Catholic Church is a proud African-American Catholic Community of faith, education and witness which sees itself at the service of the entire community.

The National Black Catholic Evangelization Forum Project Reach Out is an outgrowth of the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus (NBCCC). The purpose of the Forum is to assist the membership of the NBCCC in its mission to share the Good News with people from all walks of life. The Forum's mission is the eradication of racism in the Church and in society.

The Sisters of the Holy Family an African American Congregation of Pontifical status was founded by a free woman of African descent, Henriette Delille, in New Orleans, Louisiana some twenty years before the emancipation Proclamation. The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family has maintained their original ministries of educating youth and caring for the aged, the poor, and the most abject of society.

IN A WORD is a monthly publication for and about African American Catholics. It is the most read publication amongst African American Catholics in the USA. It reaches over 30,000 people in 300 plus parishes and schools. It is published by the Divine Word Missionaries, a worldwide missionary group of priests and brothers. Founded in in 1875 the SVD's (as they are called) opened the first seminary for African American men in 1919. For years this was the only place young men could study for the priesthood.

The Josephites The Josephites are the only community of priests and Brothers who work exclusively among African-Americans. The Josephites also have a wonderful selection of resources for Afro-American education!

Xavier University of Louisiana There are 102 historically Black colleges and 253 Catholic colleges in the United States, yet only one is both Black and Catholic. That distinction belongs to Xavier University of Louisiana, which strives to combine the best attributes of both its faith and its culture.
