Learning Disability Resources
In April of 2000, our daughter was diagnosed with multiple learning disabilities. The following are resources and websites which we found very helpful.
dyscalculiaform.org is a best site for all information and support concerning dsycalculia.
DYSCALCULIA SYMPTOMS a wonderful site that helps explain dyscalculia, a lesser known learning disability
Homeschooling Kids With Disabilities a large and comprehensive site
LD Online Probably the best overall learning disability site
Educators Publishing Service publishes many resources for all types of students.
RESOURCES FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
JoyceHerzog.com To provide teaching tools to make learning easier for everyone, and possible for anyone. These materials are equally appropriate for the learning disabled, and the below, average and gifted learners.
LD RESOURCES WE HAVE USED
Math-U-See the best math program ever! It was not originally created for LD students but it has worked miracles with our daughter!
Although she has finished the Little Angels Phonic Series, we refer back to them often. We also used The Complete Phonics Workbook from American Education Publishing (I found it at Sam's Club for a great price) for reinforcement and review. We also used Hooked on Phonics and tied it in with spelling.
The Sentence Diagramming workbooks from Ye Hedge School are wonderful! When my daughter is struggling to understand the mechanics of grammar, we diagram it. Visually seeing the relationship of the words in the sentence helps her understand their parts of speech. I highly recommend these workbooks.
D'nealian Handwriting Series has worked well for my daughter. Especially when we started cursive. We have also used Handwriting Without Tears. Both are available from Rainbow Resource Center .
