The Power of the Rosary by Father Albert Shamon is an excellent introduction for
the novice to this powerful prayer. It is also a terrific refresher for those well
acquainted with the Rosary. Father Shamon has packed forty-three pages with
Rosary apologetics and history.
The book sis reminiscent of the classic The Secret of the Rosary by St. Louis de Montfort. The difference is Father Shamon's book is more approachable. The examples given and events portrayed have a greater relevance to our times.
The book contains six chapters, five illustrations and two appendices. The
chapters refute all arguments against the Rosary and illustrate, through actual
historical incidents, the power of the Rosary. The appendices contain instructions
how to say the Rosary and explain how it is the strongest weapon against abortion.
One of my favorite sections describes how Carol Finlay, while praying the Rosary, was inspired to solve the mystery of how malaria was spread. Once direct consequence of this was the completion of the Panama Canal. Having been born in the Panama Canal Zone, I had a special appreciation for what a miracle the conquering of malaria was. Many other historical examples are included to illustrate the miraculous blessings of the Rosary.
I highly recommend this delightful book. The Power of the Rosary by Father Shamon would be a wonderful introduction to the Rosary for a loved one. For those familiar with the Rosary, it reacquaints us with this "language of love."
