Little Known Game Options

Windows Command Line Options

  • To add command line options with your Windows shortcuts, access the shortcut's properties and look for the field labeled "target". Add the command at the end, inside that field. It should be placed outside of the quotes. For instance, the shortcut on my desktop has the /8 option, and looks like the following in the target field:
    "C:\Program Files\Chron X\Chronx.exe" /8
  • To force Chron X™ to run in a specific resolution, regardless of what your video card is set for, try using the following options:

    /8 - 800 x 600
    /10 - 1024 x 768
    /11 - 1152 x 864

Use these command line options to run Chron X in a window, rather than using full screen mode. The size that Chron X runs at also affects the number of extra rows of scrap piles that you can work with while managing your decks. 800 x 600 gives you 2 rows, 1024 x 768 gives you 3 rows, and 1152 x 864 gives you 4 rows to work with.

  • You can play games against other players even when the Chron X server is not available. To do this, one player must start his copy of Chron X as the master and the other player must connect to his computer as the servant. To start Chron X as the master, use the /m option. The player who wants to start Chron X as the servant must use the /s option followed by the URL or IP address of the computer that is running as the master. To find out what the IP address of your computer is, run the command "winipcfg" from the Run command in the Start Menu (with Windows 95 or 98). If you are running Windows NT, open up a DOS prompt and use the command "ipconfig". The IP address will be four numbers with dots in between them (e.g. 192.168.13.4).

In order to play against each other, both players must click the "Manage Character" tab at the bottom of the screen while holding down the Shift key on the keyboard. Once the two computers are done connecting, both players should see the game selection screen, just as if they had connected through the Chron X server.

A neat trick that you can do with this master/servant option is that you can play games against yourself, using just one computer, in order to test decks, try out cards, etc. First, you must create a copy of your Chron X directory and the files in it, and paste it to a different spot on your harddrive. This allows you to run two copies of Chron X at once. Start one as the master using the /m option, and start the other one as the servant using the /s option with the IP address 127.0.0.1.

  • Sick of Chron X trying to download updates from the Server whenever you start it up? You can use the /u option to prevent that from happening.
