Multi-Episode and General References
- In an interview on NPR's Fresh Air, Craig McCracken said that the
Mayor's office is a direct detail-for-detail borrowing from Commissioner Gordon's office on
the Batman TV series of the 1960s. [Holygoat]
- McCracken's commentary to "Whoopass Stew" on the "Mane Event" DVD
notes that the shot in the opening sequence when the girls are running towards the viewer
was also an homage to the Batman TV show, which he says "was always one of

- According to Powerpuff Girls Magazine, Him was inspired by the Blue Meanies

- Princess' frizzy red hair and surname "Morebucks" make her and her father a

- Arturo is derived from the comedy routines of Señor Wences. [Collin]
- Mitch Mitchellson, the class bully in the girls' school, laughs like Popeye

- Malph's grocery store refers to both Ralph Malph (Donnie Most) from Happy Days

- The girls' big-eyed appearance was inspired by the paintings of Margaret Keane, who is
also referenced by her namesake in the series: Ms. Keane, the girls' kindergarten teacher.

- The Pokey Folks nursing home that pops up in a number of episodes has a street number of
3400, as did Hanna-Barbera's 3400 Cahuenga Boulevard building, and mimics the building in

- The "Circle J" convenience store seen in "Power Lunch" and
"Superfriends" is a takeoff on the Circle K chain in California. [CJA]
- The way in which Buttercup says "Why, I oughta...." is reminiscent of

Frank surmises that if Buttercup is Moe, then Blossom might be Larry,
and Bubbles, Curly. The girls' personalities "soitenly" (pardon the

- Mojo Jojo's shout of "Newman!" in "Mo Job" and "What's the Big Idea"
comes from the Seinfeld episode "The Doodle," during which Jerry
says to Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), "I know the chunky who left these Chunkies.... NEWMAN!"
