My Purchase Process

NEW

1. Determine what to buy - done - Iron set,  fairway wood, and 3 wedges.

2. Find a fitter, get fitted, test different brands - done -

  • My Specifications:
    • Swing speed 80-85 (irons) & tempo .9  = stiff flex steel S300
    • My height (6'2"), wrist to ground distance, and lie board test = +.5" shaft length.
  • Best brands (hit, contact & feel) for me = Callaway Big Berthas or Cleveland TA5s .

3. Determine manufacturer preference - done - Irons: Cleveland, Wedges: PureSpin, Fairway wood: Jackaroo II 4. Determine how much to spend - Wedges (3): $100, Irons (3-PW): $500 or less, Fairway wood: $130

5. Decide what to buy. Condition: New, custom order + size length and + size grips from manufacturer or possibly save $$ by purchasing used, but they must be mint condition and be a big savings from a new set.

6. Decide where to buy (Internet, ProShop, etc.). If Internet, determine warranty, return policy and procedures? Done. ProShop - Golfsmith

7. Acquire clubs?  Done, I bought the PureSpin G, S, & L wedges at a local Golfsmith store for $99.00. I liked hearing about their use on the Senior Tour. After using them, I really like them but they do scuff the balls (I knew about this before buying and I am willing to replace balls much more often). I got the Jackaroo  II fairway wood in July. The Cleveland irons will arrive in a few days.

8. Test clubs for proper fit and adjust if necessary. Working on that now.

Budgeted: $730 - Spent: $450
