Tape/Lesson
Review
1. Video Golf Lesson - AJ Reveals the Truth About Golf
The golf lesson is segmented into 3 parts (i.e.
the three VHS tapes):
Part 1 - The Search for the Truth
Part 2 -
The Discovery of the Truth
Part 3 - The Application of the Truth
I will preface this
review with: if you thought you would immediately get to the information, you won't, (that's why the 3 VHS tapes), so be patient.
Part
1 - I enthusiastically got out my notepad and began watching. However, after 25-35 minutes of listening to AJ being a "talking
head", I fell asleep - twice. I had to rewind some of it just to complete it. Outside of about 5 minutes of useful information,
the TV Promos were more informative. (40 min.)
Part 2 – No ball striking here but uses training
aids to explain the theory and mechanics of ball flight, club action, impact, and hands. Explains how to use these mechanics
for improved control of the ball and greater distance. (40 min.)
Part 3 – It took three tapes
to see a club hit a ball. Demonstrations of information presented in Part 2 with some additional information.(40 min.)
2. Video Golf Lesson
- AJ Reveals the Truth About the Short Game - running time: 35min.
The golf lesson is segmented into 3 parts:
Part 1 - Chipping
Part 2 - Pitching
Part 3 - Bunker Play
This was
a very good tape/DVD and more like what the average person would hope to see in an instructional video lesson. It contains
two techniques and 5 different shots. I would have rated it excellent if they had included the “towel technique”
for landing spots and identified up front that there would be no putting segment.
Marketing/ Customer
satisfaction observation
The marketing strategy might be that to have people initially buy a comparably expensive
product, they have to give the buyer something of value to keep (short game video) and a good return policy. They put the
satisfaction guarantee on the main series and consider the short game an after-the-fact bonus. As a result, you assess your
satisfaction and game improvement on the main series and the short game separately. I think this actually does a disservice
to the AJ company. I think it would be better to package and assess it as one series.
My recommendation
to AJ Golf:
Take the 5 minutes of useful information (e.g. pronation & supination) off of Tape/Part One, add
information about the position/effects of the other four wrist movements referred to (e.g. palm reflection & dorsey flection),
and put it into Tape/Part 2. Then you can scrap Tape/Part One entirely. Incorporate the Short Game Video Lesson as part of
the series. Combined, they will do more for helping achieve AJ's 30/30 Guarantee, (you will hit your drives 30 yards longer
and reduce your handicap by 30% in 90 days or your money back). Then throw in the putting video (currently sold separately)
as the Bonus tape.
Wrap up
Judging
from other reviews that I had researched, I would have bet money that I would not have found any value in the tapes. However,
I did learn some new stuff regarding ball flight and club mechanics. Therefore, I am willing to practice to see if I will
hit my drives 30 yards longer and reduce my handicap by 30% in 90 days as promised. If not, I will return the single DVD for
my money back and keep the other stuff. I don’t regret watching the videos. If you already have the knowledge of club
mechanics (main video) and have no problems getting up and down from around the green (short game video) then maybe you want
to pass on these tapes. As a new golfer, I found the tapes informative.
Buff's Golf
Truth
For the best golf, you MUST have all three; properly fit equipment + knowledge + frequent practice.
If these tapes improve your knowledge so be it, if not, return it. And yes, once you see the tapes to get the information,
you could still return them even if they did as claimed in the 30/30 guarantee but that wouldn’t be “Cricket”
now would it.
I’ll respond back in 90 days for an application update.
