Lieutenant  Haakon "Kon" Chief  Tactical Officer, USS Olympic

invincible_purcell_2.jpg

Race: Zaldan

Age: 27

Place of Birth: Zald (Dolium V)

Description: Kon is very short for a Zaldan, standing only 6' 1.5" (under 2 metres) tall, although he possesses the bulky, muscular build possessed by all Zaldans. His eyes are a sharp, piercing blue and his spikey hair is a reddish-black, depending upon the light. His skin tone is a pinkish-tan, which enables him to blend in better with most humans...if not for his webbed hands and feet, proof of his people's aquatic heritage

Personal Assesment; Personal Log of Haakon "Kon":

I do not understand this need to speak about one's self. It is unbecoming, but I have nothing to hide, so I shall do so since it is a requirement of Starfleet regulations.

I am a blunt, honest person, and I expect the same in return. I do not tolerate liars or those who prevaricate, hiding behind politeness and so-called civility. If you have nothing to hide, you have no need to speak anything but the truth. I have learned that most species do not appreciate such honesty, however, and while this disgusts me, I have learned that sometimes it is better to remain silent when they ask me a question and I do not believe that they want to hear a truthful answer.

I believe this unflinching honesty, however, makes me a damn good Security officer. I will not settle for anything less than the absolute truth, even if it means that I must spend much time cutting my way through the deceptions of others. I will also tell the command officers my honest opinion upon our chances, for false pride is something that is based upon self-deception.

My people are also known for their...territorial instincts. I will ensure that my ship and my crewmates are safe, no matter what it takes.

My parents are both from Zald, although they have lived on Earth for more than forty years. I was born in England and raised in Australia, where my parents still live and work as marine biologists. I spent a considerable amount of my life on the coasts, studying the coral reefs, but whereas my older sister preferred to surround herself with our parents' studies, I kept looking to the stars. When I was of age, I applied for Starfleet Academy and I have not looked back since.

Professional Assesment of Haakon "Kon" From The Desk of Captain Rondon Commanding Officer, USS Jah'tor

Kon is an excellent young officer, driven and dedicated in his duties. I sat on his examination panel during his final exams at Starfleet Academy and he answered every question unflinchingly. His performance during the Kobayashi Maru, in particular, caught my attention.

Making the decision to break the treaty in order to save the "freighter" in danger, Kon did so boldly, sending a message to Starfleet of his actions (and to absolve his crew of responsibility) before his ship crossed over the Neutral Zone. When the "freighter" turned out to be a trap, he responded swiftly and decisively, immediately going on the offensive. While many doubted his wisdom in immediately attacking three vessels instead of fleeing, he provide his valor when he commanded security teams to scramble the shuttles, setting them on autopilot to distract the enemy vessels, while using transporters to beam photon torpedoes directly into space instead of giving the enemy vessels time to track the positioning of his weapon systems. Simultaneously, he slipped in transmittor buoys that relayed the incident to Star Fleet command, as well as "dummy" torpedoes to fool enemy scanners. I found his performance to be exemplary. For his quick thinking and determination "under fire," I asked for him to be assigned to the Jah'tor for his maiden cruise.

Although he only served for one year on the Jah'tor, Kon proved an able and surprisingly adaptable officer. We Zaldans are not known for our gregarious natures, but for a Zaldan, Kon is surprisingly...outgoing. He seems to enjoy socializing with his crewmates when he is off-duty, which is rather surprising. However, when he is on-duty, or in an emergency, he becomes all business.

Medical Evaluation of Haakon "Kon" From The Desk Of Doctor (LCDR) Inaia Chief Medical Officer, USS Jah'tar:

Lieutenant J.G. Haakon is in perfect physical health. Although he is shorter than most Zaldans, his musculature is strong and he maintains a rigorous exercise regimine. His strength is on par with that of a Klingon.

Like all Zaldans, he has a layer of subcutaneous fat beneath his skin, which gives him a slightly bulkier build than a human of his same average height, build and physical condition. This subcutaneous layer, coupled with the density of his bone structure and musculature, enables him to shrug off even subzero temperatures and both incredible pressure (such as the depths of the ocean) as well as even survive exposure to the vaccuum of space (for a short period of time).

Kon's metabolism is extremely high, even for a Zaldan, his biochemistry enabling him to survive toxins that even most Vulcans would succumb to.

As with other Zaldans, LTjg Haakon's lung capacity is much greater than average humanoids. As a race, the Zaldans are descended from aquatic mammals (not dissimilar from the Terran species known as dolphins). While not truly amphibious, their specialized lungs enable them to hold their breaths for incredible periods of time. Kon has displayed the ability to hold his breath for more than 20 minutes at a time.

LTjg Haakon is declared fit and capable for duty.

Psychological Review of Haakon "Kon" From The Desk Of Lieutenant Nautan Aacra Ship's Counselor, USS Jah'tar

LTjg Haakon "Kon" is an unusual individual. Incredibly stubborn and strong-willed, he represents much of what is considered the best (and the worst) qualities of the Zaldan - their unyielding determination, their belief in absolute honesty, and their 'territorial' nature. I will address each of these characteristics separately.

Unyielding Nature. Also known as stubborness. This seems to be both a social and genetic trait amongst the Zaldans. Although Haakon grew up on Earth and his parents worked with non-Zaldans, it is very difficult to sway a Zaldan once they have set their minds upon a course. Quick to make a judgement and equally quick to anger, Zaldan's are known for their rather... passionate natures. Haakon's is tempered, somewhat. He will actually think about his anger before he explodes. I have noticed that the webbing between his digits tends to flush when he is angry (a good warning sign that you are pushing him past his rather 'limited' patience).
Absolute Honesty. Haakon hides nothing. His feelings and his thoughts are typically open for any to see. However, do not mistake his openess and honesty for a lack of intelligence. Haakon has displayed a rather quick intellect and a surprisingly droll sense of humor. He recognizes that he can be blunt and confrontational and his wry sense of humor can be quite disarming, when he is comfortable enough around a person. If he makes a friend, they are a friend for life...and as long as they are honest with him, he will respect them. Many amongst the crew of the Jah'tar are proud to call "Kon" a friend, quick to his defense, and more than a few times, even quicker to cover one of his social gaffes.

Territorial Nature. The Zaldans are a tribal people, even now, almost 800 years since the Kimilon attempted to 'civilize' the Zaldan. This has lead to a tendency for Zaldans to be very protective of their 'tribe' and 'lands.' As with most Zaldan who venture into space, Haakon's "tribe" consists of his crewmates, while his "lands" consist of his ship and the Federation. This has made Haakon a particularly dedicated Security officer. He has also displayed a marked talent, and drive, for command. I see him easily transfering from Security to Command within a few years. I believe, with more exposure to other cultures and beliefs, that this will continue to temper his nature...with a bit more experience, I believe he shall make an excellent Command Officer.
