In order to maintain a coherent game we would like to establish a few simple guidelines to follow so that all players
understand each other, play well together and the game maintains a standard pace with a coherent plot line.
- HAVE FUN! This game is made for your enjoyment. It is not the intention of these guidelines to detract
from your enjoyment of the game. If at any time these guidelines detract from the quality of the game please feel free to
discuss this with a moderator or the game creator. With out your feed back there is no way for us improve or correct oversights.
- POSTING FREQUENCY: The game is player content generated. This means that with out active participation
from the players the game will bog down and stagnate eventually dieing off. Therefore we require that all Senior Officers
post once every two days at a minimum. Junior Officers can easily be moved to supporting roles in the story line so they are
only required to post twice per week. If at any time you are unable to meet these requirements due to real life issues such
as vacation, heavy work load on the job, sickness or other real life commitments it is completly understandable. All we require
is that you notify the Captain or Moderator via email or place a leave of absence post on the list serv notifying us.
- PLAY NICE: It is ok for two characters to disagree and argue with in the context of the game. It is called
Role-Playing. However, please be carefull not to carry this too far and have it spill over into your out-of-character posting.
We expect all Players to maintain a friendly atmosphere. Prejudice, Immaturity and flat out rude or hostile behavior will
not be tolerated on this PBEM.
- SPELL AND GRAMMER CHECK: In a perfect world everyone who ever used a keyboard would have the education
of a sixty year old english teacher. Typo's happen! Bad Grammer is common place and not everyone has the writing skills
of Stephen King. This is why <Insert Relegious Diety Here> created spell check. Spell check is your friend
and if not it is highly suggested that you get yourself acquainted with it. As a policy we over look occasional typo's, mispelled
words and anything else that would make that 60 year old English teacher roll over in her grave. We are here to have
fun. However, if at any time your posts become incoherent, confusing or painfull to read due to an unwillingness to put
effort into your work we do reserve the right to ask you to leave the game. The key words in this are unwillingness to put
effort into your work. If you are honestly trying to learn and improve your writing skills I am never one to get in the way
of education or self-improvement.
- POSTING FORMAT: Please follow the posting format provided bellow. The posting format is used in order
to organize and make all posts readable to everyone.
Posting Format:
Subject Field: "Title" - Location - Character Name
We ask that everyone use the above format for creating the subject line of each Post. This is done to give the reader an
idea of what the post is about before opening it. It also allows the reader to organize the Posts through the use of message
rules and sorting features in there email client.
The Title is just a brief descriptor to tag the actions of the post. A good Title for the Captains first post where he
arrives on the Olympic would be "Enter The Captain"
The Location is where the character is at the begining of the post.
The Character's Name is self explanitory.
Here is a sample of what a subject line should look like"
"Enter The Captain" - Mars Outrigger Station - Captain William Hathoway
Header: Name with Rank, Position, Setting
The Header is just information added to the top of each post that lets the reader know The Characters Identity, Position
and Location before they start reading.
Example:
Captain William Hathoway
Commanding Officer, USS Olympic
Mars Outrigger Station
Body: Your Post. This is where you enter your post. All Posting should be done in the third
party tense only. Essentially you are a narrator telling a story that has already happened to someone else.
Example: The Captain entered the Turbo Lift with the Executive Officer. He was not happy with the situation
at all and despite his best efforts he was having difficulty hiding the fact from his crew.
OOC: OOC is short for Out Of Character. If you would like to make a personel statement or comment that
originates from the Player and not the Character it is important to let the readers know so they do not accidently confuse
your comments with those of the character. Add all Out Of Character comments at the end of the post Make sure you put
at the begining of these out of character comments the OOC: tag.
Example:
OOC: Just wanted to say Welcome to the Game Everyone!
Descriptor Tags: When posting dialogue, whether internal, external, or telepathic there are some helpful ways in which
you can add cues to the text to alert readers what type of dialogue you are conveying. Try using these:
=/\= ....... =/\= Comms transmissions. The comms transmission symbol is made by using the following keys. equal, forward
slash, back slash, equal
[ ............ ] Computer Voice should be placed in brackets
