Story:
Lao was brought up in a Wu lung family. since he was the eldest son they expected the best from him. They drove him and pushed him. When he finally awakened his ancestor spirit took up wherever his family or his superiors left off. constantly driving him to excell and do more and better.
Lao did the worst thing imaginable. he fell in love with a peasant girl. Naturally his superiors, his family and even his avatar were horrified and dead set against it. When she got sick of pnuemonia he tried to help her but his herbalism skills were meager and his avatar refused to help him.
Lao bore her death stoicly. His family and fellow mages were relieved because it was a blessing really and he would come to see it in time. Only his avatar knew that Lao was really a roiling cauldron of rage and even it could not foresee that he eventually offer himself to the Yama Kings.
Lao walked up out of Hell with a smile on his serene face and a quiet in his mind. His magicks can call Iron Dogs and black iron centipedes from the depths of Chinese hells. His power slowly grows great and potent and all the Yama kings ask in return is that he sow chaos and destruction everywhere he goes and sacrifices 3 awakened creatures every year at chinese new year.
While he doesn't exactly understand or cotten to his malfean nephandi brethren, the Yama Kings have asked him to come here and he has done well for himself by allying with them. Someday though he may be asked to destroy them and he will do it as vigourously as possible....otherwise, they might let the voice of his ancestor spirit return to him.
Pharmacopiea and other widgets:
Lao's pharmacopiea regular consists of the following materials:
Curare to coat his throwing knives,
Nightshade Gnosis 5 (4 doses)
This talen is distilled from the very essence of night. one fluid once of this liquid, when quaffed turns the imbiber's body into shadow, rendering her virtually invisible in darkness, the effect wears off after an hour.
Death dust Gnosis 6 (5 pinches)
this small jar when broken and activated and sprinkled over a creature dead no longer than a day,
allows the wielder to communicate with the spirit of the body.
Awakened Plants
Basil: An herb of Mars has two uses, first it removes the effects of any verminous poison, second it can be mixed with horse dung to create a flood of magical scorpions. this power is like the Infest gift of the Bone Gnawers
Plantain: When awakened, this plant is a powerfull healer. This herb is under the domain of Venus and thus when it is taken, all damage and disease caused by Mars( such as damage caused by frenzy combat, during spirit travel, or even wounds caused by someone with the mars rising or midsky merit.) are healed. It heals it's gnosis in wound levels(including aggravated) per use. It can also be drunk to heal internal injuries: For each dose drunk one evil of the wyrm is healed. for example, if a garou had hunted and eaten tainted hares and had taken three levels of damage one level would be healed.
Service berry: The sanctified inner bark of this plant can be boiled in water and stored for later use.
One dose of this substance will cure blindness. even if caused by gifts or wyrm poisons. It will not heal damage or provide sight to those born without the capacity for vision. If the eyes are physically damaged they must be healed first.
Sweet flag: The roots of this plant when awakened must be steeped in water and burned over a low
flame the resulting water can be stored and drunk at a later date. One dose will aid someone who has suffered an ingested poison by reducing the difficulty to resist by 4.
Rosemary: This sanctified plant can stimulate the memory. -2 to difficulties to recall facts or expiriences.
Mage Drugs:
Nephente This drug was used in the Mediterranean during the Greek Era. It was probably a mixture of opium and a rare kind of lotus, and induced in its users a languid, pleasurable state of mind with an intense sensitivity to beauty. On the downside, it made its users passive and somewhat sluggish. It is believed it was used by both the Seers to gain insight into the aesthetics of the world and by the Pythagoreans to become able to experience the music of the spheres directly.
The Dancing Powder This powder is made from dried crushed spiders of the poisonous species Aranea Praegustator (common in most equatorial America). When ingested it causes hyperactivity, an inability to remain still (it is quite common for users to begin to dance uncontrollably) and ecstatic trance states. The drug is generally used to facilitate possession by spirits or gods, who enter the user and manifest through him.
Hydra Venom This poison is sometimes used by the Euthanatos to bring the good death to especially worthy persons. It is a rare distillate of dozens of snake poisons gathered from the Shard Realm of Life, extremely toxic and virulent. As soon as it gets into the organism of someone, it will spread causing a burning agonising pain which only gets worse and worse. At the same time the victim becomes less affected by other kinds of pain, since they are so minor compared to the poison. Usually the victims commit suicide after a few hours of agony, releasing their souls from this incarnation.
Lacrima Tenebris This alchemical preparation (a slightly salty liquid, indistinguishable from tears) is made from lead salts, nightshade and tears from people in sorrow. By distilling and consecrating the solution on a Saturday, it will become filled with the powers of death and darkness. It can be mixed in food or drink, and will quickly induce a stupor followed by apparent death. In reality the preparation just freezes the bodily functions, and the victim is still alive and fully conscious in an almost total darkness with occasional glimpses of the surroundings. It is extremely hard to tell that the victim is alive, and most are simply assumed to be dead and buried.
