Here's where it gets crunchy.
Finding Cold Mountain:
Cold Mountain is actually in an area of old played out mines. Many of them are unstable because of the limestone so prevalent in the area. Hard rains can play havoc with these mines and so many of them are cave in prone as well. Since these mines are so far up in the hills, a car is useless for getting up here. Much of the ore that was taken out of these mines was taken using mules. In fact that is the method by which Buck and his boys manage to get the shine down out of the hills. The only problem is that there are mule tracks all over the place.
It's a good thing you've got a smart little doggy isn't it?
Naturally, They can also stumble around in the dark tripping deadfalls and other antipersonell devices and being caught by Klan member on sentry duty.
The Klan also has heard there is somebody in town asking around about them so they are on hieghtened awareness. Suspicious activity or absences will be investigated.
The Personell:
Tonight is a major meeting of the Klan. Buck has purchased a number of tommy guns and ammo and plans on distributing them to his cohorts and then they plan on a little "party" out at the company. Thankfully, these guns are still crated up at the home of one of the lieutennants. (too much trouble to haul them up here) The meeting then is desgined to get the membership fired up and ready for trouble. There are a total of 20 klan members here tonight. 6 of them are on sentry duty. 7 are inside tending to various duties including bottling champagne and tending to the still.
6 members and Buck Justice are in a spur having a meeting before the meeting. These six are his inner circle. These six should be built as regular guys with decent combat pools. everybody else here is a Extra. All of the inner circle are armed with either a shotgun,Rifle, pistol or large knife.
Each extra is also probably armed as well. (1-3=Knife, 4-7=pistol, 8-9=rifle, 10=Shotgun+ another weapon)
The Layout:
Cold Mountain Mine is a pit mine which means that it is dug straight back into the mountain. An open clearing is cluttered with old wooden bins that used to hold coal prior to transport down the mountain. 3 mules are tied up near the mine entrance with large saddlebags and cargo netting to hold more bottles. At least 2 sentires will be in the clearing.
The Mine goes straight back with some side spurs. Klan guys are attending to various kinds of business in these spurs. Naturally any kind of gunshot will be heared all over the mine and will bring people running.
The Mine opens into a large open area at the end of tunnel. This open area is where the elevator to the lower levels of the mine is. alert characters might note that water is running down spots on the walls and pooling in various places. A large scale surrounded by boiler plate is toward the back of the room nearest the closest air vent. This still is composed of old radiators and those who drink from it act increasing erratic before going blind. There is an opening on the far side of the chamber where Buck and his boys will appear from should trouble start.
The main chamber is also cluttered with old wooden bins, crates, an old pickaxe or two. and the elevator can be used for a bit of cover because it's sides are solid. (but it's front and back are open to the air.
The Still:
Stills and Bullets do not get along. if any kind of gun play break out in the main chamber. (and some of the crackers are crazy enough to start that sort of shit.) Then you have to deal with the possibility that the still might take a bullet. (in fact, you should count on it.) If anybody in the room botches a firearms roll that bullet is assumed to have hit the still.
This will cause an immediate and unpleasant explosion which will act as fragmentation grenade (7 Lethal) but in an area of about 40 feet. (much of this damage is actually shrapnel.)
At this point, The game becomes a race against time. The tunnel they came in will take 3 turns at running speed and 2 at sprinting speed. The Players have a total of 6 turns before the mine caves in.
Buck will not leave the mine in the event of a cave in. He knows of another way out and will take it if it all runs to shit. There is an undergorund stream on the lower level of the mine which lets out near a pond. Buck will swim this egress if things get extreme.
Buck will pick himself up, dust himself off and leave the county. heading for another place to set up shop. The players will have earned his undying enmity. He will find out from his contacts in town who those damn people are (Elaine will be recognized by somebody.)
This of course assumes that the players do not put paid to him in a more permanent manner. I.E. killing him or jailing him.
Screwing up:
It is of course possible, that the players will screw up and get caught. If this happens, they will brought bound and gagged to Buck and he will interrogate them seperately. They might also try to string up Barney (which can actually kill him by asphyxiation) if this happens, or the players get too far in over their heads, then you pull out the ace in the hole...
The Return of Vito: Vito's capo sent him at the request of the mine owners to deal with the pesky Klan problem that is troubling their country men. Vito arrives with his boys in tow and starts shooting up the place. Vito will find it ironic and amusing that he might be in the position of helping the players out and since he has no orders to wax any of them. He won't be inclined to kill them either, If the players do allright against the bad guys, then Vito and his boys will just miss them. But if they need the tide of battle turned, consider evening the odds.
Aftermath:
The players will have an implacable (if remote) enemy in Buck Justice. They might also find themselves in some debt to Vito Stefano for his assistance (If he rendered any.) But at least the "Champagne" will have been stopped at the source and this will comfort Ms. Bailley. If the case is wrapped up satisfactorily, Then the team won't get into as much trouble for the loss of the plane.
