Story:
Unlike many souls that drifted their way to the House of Blue Dragon, Jade Rose did not start out Akashic. What happened in the lives before is unknown save for the terrible and violent flashes she (and she seems to be always she, though again, nothing is really known of before) has during each incarnation. Jade Rose enters the Record near the beginning years of the House. She was then a young woman named Chatayala.
Chatayala was Chakravanti, Euthanatos to the lesser educated, and nominally part of the corrupted cabal the House was sent to root out. She knew the score, knew there was a rot in her kind, but she was too young and too weak in power on her own to cut it out. Before the great battles, she was locked away. Managing to escape while her 'bretheren' were away, she went to the attacking Akashics a just after the offensive against them and offered what she knew.
Though in mourning, the House was not one to look this gift in the mouth...
After victory, Blue Dragon offered her a place with them. Chatayala explained that she thought she was seeking some kind of redemption for something, and she believed that this was part of her road to it, and accepted, changing allegiance, and her very being...for the most part (see below)...to Akashic and was given the name Jade Rose, beautiful and unyielding in what she believed was right. Chatayala did not live much longer, dying violently scant years later, but not before uttering something that haunted Blue Dragon for years: "When the stone flower blooms in the blood of the master, when she touches his house again, he will know death is waiting."
For although Jade Rose was no longer a mage of death, she was still a hand of fate, still is. Her soul passed from the House, but appeared four times after, three before the deaths of respected masters, leaders, and the like. She became known as one of the three Harbingers (one of the others being Hidden Swan, a particular catalyst and harbinger within the House). The fourth was born a girl to Chang Li (Laughing Monkey) and his seventh wife, Xiang. At first, no one knew what to make of the appearance of Jade Rose in Chang Li Ming, even thought that the 'master' spoken of was not Zhou Peng, Blue Dragon himself, as he only had one son, who in turn fathered very few children, and Li was not their blood. But it was discovered that Xiang was, in fact, a daughter five generations in a line from Blue Dragon...
And so it passed that, after coming to understand what it all meant, that Blue Dragon did pass from this world, and the house scattered to wait.
Chang Li Ming was born in a rail camp in Colorado, the second child of Chang Li and his wife, Xiang. A quiet, serene, sensitive, but active child, she both ate up the knowledge her father passed to her and was hurt that her father's master was very distant from her while actively training her elder brother. Even after they settled in a little California town and everyone had more time, the master did not talk to her.
Until one day, when she was eleven, Blue Dragon called her after hours of what everyone Awakened felt to be a great working. "I have never been kind to you, Li Ming." He said, looking very old for the first time in three centuries. "For that I am sorry." "Master, you need not explain..." "Tut. I was afraid of that which I should not be. I understand now, and understand what I had to do. I had to prepare." "I don't understand." "I don't expect you do. One day, you will. I have no time to explain now. Fetch me your father and my son."
Blue Dragon died that very night, worn through by the working of a gold and jade figurine he imbued with things for his next incarnation.
Her father took her brother and the figurine east, to New York, though he did try to tell as much as he knew of Jade Rose, for he knew Chatayala personally. Xiang and Li Ming stayed with Xiang's family in California for a time before she too joined her husband. Li Ming, dubbed Lucy to those she started to work for, stayed with her uncle and aunt. She couldn't explain why. She just had to. Uncomfortably, she figured it had something to do with that pesky avatar of hers...and she did stay, half-befriending a young Englishman named Charles Rawlins, and then meeting another...and then she had to go and follow them...
Lucy has never actually touched the record, but she does, like all incarnations of Jade Rose, have the dreams/nightmares of the past. She has identified Chatayala in her dreams, however. She also retains the sense of having to seek redemption for something that she does not know about, and really doesn't want to end the way she's been told Jade Rose tends to. She also is occasionally still a hand of fate, telling her father in his rush to move off east that "There is no hurry, what you wait will not come tomorrow or the next day, or even in the next ten years. The great wheel will turn in it's time." She has no memory of speaking this.
