A collaborative project written by Peter Sears and many divers hands.
Dear Mauricio:
I am writing in order to take advantage of a break in my studies. I am really beginning to hate Bennett, which is truly unfortunate because I'm beginning to apprehend how very smart he is. We both know that recent events have caused magick to be less than reliable (like it was ever perfect.) But Bennett, with his House Tytalus attitude, is one to take advantage of every single little nook and cranny in static reality. You saw the stir he caused at the Collegium with his paper on astrology and resonance. (he made political hay on that I can assure you.)
Well...it gets worse. He has assigned me to a study of junctures and their possible uses in coordination with his theories of sympathetic resonance. The source material is far more than I can possibly digest and I need real help with compiling it.
I am not flattering you by telling you that you are a genius at this sort of thing. You already know that. Your training in House Shaea and your contacts among like minded researchers could be invaluable to the whole of the order because I really think that Bennett...Twisted freak that he may be...Might be on to something
Appended to this file are my preliminary research notes and the format he's forcing me to use. I could really use your help.
-Yours
Gerald
Do you have any idea what goes on in a year? There never seem to be enough days and time just seems to fly by. If you're a supernatural creature of some sort then you've got an agenda that never seems to quit. There's always some sort of holiday or ritual to be observed and with things being the way they are...You really can't afford to ignore it.
This is a collaborative project which I hope to be able to put together into some coherent form and hopefully nudge WWGS into publishing the silly thing. Even if they're not interested, at least it will stand as a net resource.
Hopefully the Book of Days will be useful for a number of things like:
1) Gives the Mage a time frame to work from: what campaign would be complete without a game where the characters race against time to stop an infernalist from a major summoning on Devil's night, especially when he plans to burn the city to do it.("I want to light a fire so fuckin big that the Gods will notice us again boys!")
2) Points up certain days and times when it would be most proper to summon forth certain types of spirits.(a celestial chorus member has an affinity for St. Brigid and wants to meet her and hopefully befriend her (or her emissary more likely). The best time to do so would be on St. Brigid's feast day, provided the mage cooks a feast of some sort.)
3) Points up days and times when shallowings are possible around nodes/crays.
4) Points out days of the year when the gauntlet/shroud is particularly thick(I.E. Christmas and Easter.) and other days when the Things from Outside lean against the gauntlet like a hungry leopard against a screen door.
5) Points out opportunities for mages that border the gap from simple Magick into Theurgy.( A Son of Ether will always try to start an impossible project on Tesla's birthday just on the off-chance that he might succeed. A Christian chorister will always try to do some sort of Magick that involves a personal sacrifice on Easter weekend in hopes that his sacrifice will inspire others or perhaps save them. A Jewish Hermetic makes tries to purify and rededicate his soul with a major Qabbalistic working on Yom Kippur (possibly in an effort to cleanse his pattern of unpleasant resonances.
6) Sacrifices made on certain days reaffirm the power of certain umbral powers and as such are sought by them. This might be a good way to earn brownie points with those less than tangible types or indeed meet them in the first place.
7) Mages who have set long-standing magickal Time effects usually don't set them on April 4th they are much more likely to have set them on magickally charged days like the Equinoxes.
This Project also looks to provide an overview for important days for all of the creatures of the WOD. It might not be a special day for the mages themselves in your story but there could be a Sabbat Ritae and a Garou Moot, all on a night when the shroud is particularly thin...If I were you.I'd want to stay home and read a book or something...Of course if your ST is paying attention, you won't have the chance.
